The Trust's Activities
De Laszlo Archive Trust has donated to the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Heinz Archive and Library more than 15,000 items of correspondence and press cuttings that were kept by de László during his lifetime. This collection includes important letters between the artist and some of the most interesting and significant people of the period: Presidents, monarchs and courtiers, statesmen and diplomats, soldiers, scientists and churchmen, as well as artists, writers and musicians.

This unique collection provides a valuable insight not only into de László’s work but also into his role as witness to the historical and political events of his time. All the material has been scanned and is held on a database in the Catalogue Raisonné office and on disc in the Heinz Library, together with the original material. The Catalogue Raisonné Team is translating, transcribing and indexing the papers. The information contained in this archive is already enriching the picture descriptions for the Catalogue Raisonné. The Trust has sponsored and supported the two exhibitions: A Brush with Grandeur and de László in Holland. The Trust has funded the restoration of one of de László’s early masterpieces: a portrait of Lucy Guinness owned by the Dublin City Art Gallery The Hugh Lane |

The Trust has worked closely with The National Life Story Collection, Artists’ Lives, at the British Library National Sound Archive, introducing candidates for interview who sat to, or knew de László well.
